Skyscrapers, skyscrapers, skyscrapers in KL...

This time I want to talk about the skyscrapers in the capital city of Malaysia, my country. Before I talked more about it, I want to ask whether you know anything about skyscrapers? For those who have never heard these words will really imply that the skyscraper is "a huge hand claws" that scratch the sky ... But your imagination fact WRONG!

Skyscrapers is actually a term that refers to a very high building. Did you know that the first skyscraper was built in Chicago? It was called the Home Insurance Building. Before the first skyscraper was built, people were concerned about the elevators and were afraid that they would fall until a man named Otis discovered a way to make elevators safe for everyone. A man named William LeBaron Jenney dicovered a way to use steel beams for the skeleton of the building while all
other buildings at the time used bricks for the inside and out.

The building was completed in 1885, but sadly it was demolished in 1931. The Home Insurance Building was 10 stories high and it was 138 feet tall. It was made out of steel and the outer facing material was bricks.Skyscrapers are called skyscrapers because people think that it looks like they are scraping the sky!

The Kuala Lumpur Skyscrapers

What do you know about the skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur? So

far, Kuala Lumpur has succeeded in creating the history of the world's most modern technology
architecture with the presence of Petronas Twin Towers. With a height of 452 meters above sea level, Petronas Twin Towers has become the tallest building in the world in the 20th century.

But before the construction of Petronas Twin Towers in 1995, the Maybank Tower was the tallest building in Kuala Lumpur, with a height of 244 meters, nearly half the

height of Petronas Twin Towers. The tower remains a prominent part of the city's skyline.

In 2001, Menara Telekom (Telekom Tower) was built at 310 meter with the cost of RM600 million (US$157 million) and houses infrastructure for multi-media services with high speed connectivity and features an energy-efficient management system.

Among the facilities of the building are 'sky gardens' - landscaped
platforms on every third floor, a 2,500 seat theater, exhibition halls and a recreation centre.

The 55-floor building was designed by Hijjas Kasturi and Associates, which also designed the cit y's Menara Maybank.

The Menara Telekom ranks the third tallest building after the Petronas Twin Towers and still holds the record until now..
